Samantha has recently graduated from Bachelor of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She is now working as a Graduate Environmental Engineer at an international engineering consultancy in Hong Kong.
She has extensive experience in leadership and was awarded by the HKSAR Home Affairs Bureau as the dual winner of the HK Top 10 Outstanding Youth and Social Service Award this year. She is currently the School Ambassador of HKIE, to promote the engineering discipline to the secondary and tertiary school students. She previously served as the Head Student Ambassador and Core Peer Mentor at her university.
During her three years of undergraduate studies, Samantha was actively involved in various overseas conferences and exchange opportunities to Stanford University, National University of Singapore, Tsinghua University and Xi’an Jiaotong University for leadership and entrepreneurship development.
Her passion for international relations and environmental issues brought her to represent Hong Kong as one of the 10 representatives from all over the world to work at the United Nations Headquarters, New York in Summer 2014 on health and environmental literacy, including the drafting of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She also previously represented Hong Kong at the G20 Youth Summit 2013 in St Peters burg, Russia as the Minister of Environment of China, to discuss the global environmental issues with experts.
She founded a social enterprise called Eldpathy Co. Limited while she was in Year 2, after winning the championship at the Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge 2012. Eldpathy aims to promote “empathy for the elderly” by introducing the Elderly Simulation Program that enables participants to experience the life of an elderly by putting on a specially designed suit, which mimics the physical limitations of an elderly person. Samantha had the opportunity to share my start-up experience with Jack Ma, Founder of Alibaba in Feb 2015 at a forum in Hong Kong.
Since graduation last year, Samantha has been preparing for her first publication on engineering education, called “誰說 Engineering是水泡科”, a book comprises of more than 40 engineering stories that will be launched at the HK Book Fair in July 2015. It aims at promoting engineering to secondary school students and parents in HK. Her goal in life is to promote positive change in the world through social entrepreneurship and engineering. In her desire to make a difference to society, she thinks it is important to understand the issues of people around us, be motivated to make a change and do something about it.
